Shwew, we could’ve done it without the nerfs.  But because of that it doesn’t feel so bad with the nerfs.  Cho’Gall is downed and the clearing of Tier 11 picks up steam!

So news from the ptr again leaves me scratching my head.

Druids

  • Glyphs
    • Glyph of Ferocious Bite has been redesigned. It now causes Ferocious Bite to heal the caster for 1% of maximum health for each 10 energy used.

 

For review Ferocious Bite is one of our “finishers”. Currently the way the math works out we only really use this thing during a particular phase of the fight (mob <25%) when we get the Blood in the Water buff.  It currently is just too expensive for too little damage to use any other time. We just sit there auto attack, shred and pool our energy and “waste” the extra combo points we would gain while we sit at 5 until we need to refresh rip/SR again.

Now this new/redesigned major glyph comes along. Redesigning a major glyph which no one ever uses.

As I alluded to last post I have a feeling that the devs want to reintroduce FB back into out normal priority list. I would guess they do not want Fb to become another Claw (haha never seen on an action bar EVER!)  Simply illustrated by this DPS Flowchart.

So the new glyph coupled with this…

  • Ferocious Bite damage has been increased by 15%. In addition, its base cost has been reduced to 25 energy and it can use up to 25 energy, for up to a 100% damage increase

May actually make FB usable again. Who doesn’t like a 3-12k heal every now and then.

I think we may have to do a bit of testing and reevaluate this.  And by we I mean not me.  I mean Yawning, Q Bear, Alaron, Leafkiller, etc. It still may suck but at least it will be interesting to find out.

Druids

  • Mangle (Cat) damage at level 80 and above has been increased to 530% weapon damage, up from 460%.
  • Omen of Clarity clearcasting buff from now lasts 15 seconds, up from 8 seconds.
  • Ravage damage at level 80 and above has been increased to 975% weapon damage, up from 850%.
  • Shred damage at level 80 and above has been increased to 520% weapon damage, up from 450%.
  • Swipe (Cat) now deals 600% weapon damage at level 80 or higher, down from 670%.

Glyphs

  • Glyph of Berserk duration increase is now 10 seconds, up from 5.

So I thought that the swipe seemed a bit much currently, but the other adjustments are interesting… The FB buff is great as the only time you use it now is in the last 20% while blood in the water is active.  Any increase in Berserk is very nice :)

John Frakin Madden!!!

Yea yea, I know I am late to the party but I just had to share the wonderful news a the patch notes finally are pretty much set in stone.  Here is just a quick run through of the Kat stuff (bold) with a few of my own notes (italics) added in…

All non-damaging interrupts off the global cooldown will now always hit the target. This includes Pummel, Kick, Mind Freeze, Rebuke, Skull Bash, Counterspell, Wind Shear, Solar Beam, Silencing Shot, and related player pet abilities. nice to not miss but still to expensive and having to wait almost a second for the “travel time” still sucks. when I am standing on the mob I shouldn’t have to wait…wait…wait…o there it goes…

Several persistent ground effects now display different visuals for hostile and friendly players. The following spells have the same visual effects for friendly players, but new alternate visuals for hostile players: Ring of Frost, Consecration, Desecration, Wild Mushroom, Flare, Ice Trap, Power Word: Barrier, Smoke Bomb, and Hand of Gul’dan. As a general rule, the alternate effects have a red tint or hue indicating they are created by an enemy player. Fellow melee brothers and sisters rejoice! You wimpy ranged types have no idea how messy it gets when the boss farts in your face, poops on your head then the warlok fires,huntars icesnake, durid effloresences, shamins pancake etc. Anything that helps to diferenciate the good/bad “floor is on fire” stuff is great!

Feral DPS

Just a bit o rant/a few thoughts on feral dps…

So we had out first raid night and it went as expected.  While looking over the small amount of data I caught screenshots of (yes I know I should but really haven’t figured out raid parses yet) I saw some pretty interesting things.

It seems that out rotation/priorities have changed up a bit. After poking around the blogasphere, forums (gak!) and EJ all confirm the same thing… Ferocious Bite now is lame!  We use to have a very complex set of priorities and conditions we had to meet but all that is out the door. Now it seems that FB is only useful to use when the mob is <25% when we get our Blood in the Water buff. (more…)

So I am now 5 out of 6.

I didn’t think Karoma would be so easy but the last time I flew through Twilight Highlands he was sitting there just east of the Crucible of Carnage. Talk about fumble fingers trying to land, trap him, try to change specs…oops can’t do that in combat…feign death…change specs…trap again…why can’t I dismiss my cat…crap…forgot pet dismissed automatically when changing specs…where the hell is the tame beast button…

Eventually…

So what does an aspiring hunter do but to try to complete the set.  So a few 49 minute queue’s later (how does a group of 4 from the same guild with good heroic gear produce 3 wipes on the first 2 trash packs in H-Stonecore?) I am still looking. Has anyone out there seen him yet?

EDIT: FEB7th  Got him!  Logged in tonight and there he was right under me…Woot!  Boy-o-boy the Nerfbat really hurts :)

So its been quite a while since the last post.  A little disturbance disrupted carefully laid plans and I thought I would push this out. I am sure everyone has been busy as expected in the new world post Cataclysm. This is still kinda rough but eventually in a few years of doing this I may be able to form a coherent sentence :)  Part 6 has all the links for the rest of the story so I won’t bore you any more than you already are…

Karedas 7: The Raid

Slowly, ever so slowly.  Lungs pounding, head spinning, a sense of urgency nearly overwhelming. Can’t panic now.  Not when he was so close. He rose up from the depths head tilted back. His eyes and nose the first to break the surface of the water. The slow exhale immediately followed by the stagnant smells of the marsh. Racing heart finally slowing down.  He was one with the river.  One with the wild.  The crocolisk he had disturbed in its den had finally returned to its slumber a few yards away.
